The memory sticks are loaded with exciting and useful programmes and information to help teachers in their jobs. All the information is thoroughly researched and in line with teachers needs and the national curriculum. H.Samuel, as part of the Signet group will be supporting the initiative through an affiliate programme and contributions to Memory4Teachers.</p>

<p>Memory4Teachers is a major new initiative taking place in the UK education sector. The project has been developed in association with Local Education Authorities and Teachers&#8217; Unions and is designed to support teachers with their ever-increasing workloads by funding the provision of 750,000 USB memory sticks across the UK.</p>
<p>Each of the memory sticks will contain software that has been developed to assist teachers. The sticks will allow for storage space, but also contain programmes that include a diary, timetable, lesson plans, calculator and access to numerous educational worksheets that support all areas of the national curriculum.</p>
<p>The 2GB memory keys are password protected and encrypted so that even if the devices are stolen, the memory keys are secure and safe. Recognised educational partners such as the Royal Society of Chemistry provide educational content on the sticks for teachers to use and easy access to their own websites through the sticks.</p>
<p>Teachers can register for one of the memory sticks on the Memory4Teachers website now. Only teachers and academic staff can apply and the devices will only be sent to named individuals at confirmed schools. The keys will be sent out from January 2010.</p>
<p>H.Samuel&#8217;s involvement in this project consists of a partnership with Memory4Teachers, a direct financial donation towards the cost of sending the USB sticks out and developing website and functionality and maintaining security and technology of the updates through direct funding.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.cisco.com/">Cisco</a> is asking users to share their <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ny0RubaY79Q">networking nightmare</a> stories and how they solved their problems using <a href="http://www.networkmagic.com/">Network Magic software</a> or other networking solutions. The top 10 entries as deemed by a panel of judges will win a Flip Mino HD Camcorder valued at $229.99*.</p>
<p>Cisco is inviting entries to tell their stories which depict the challenges and advantages of home networking. Cisco wants to hear about what customers are using home networking for and what they accomplish in their lives through technology.</p>
<p>To enter the contest, participants can log on to the <a href="http://www.networkmagic.com/techfrustrated">Lifestyles of the Tech Frustrated</a> home page and fill out the registration form. The contest is open from July 2 to August 16, 2009 to all legal residents of the United States and the District of Columbia who are at least 18 years of age.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>New research from travel insurer LV= has shown that a quarter of UK adults plan to take their main holiday in the UK this year, whilst a further 15% say they do not intend to have a &#8216;main&#8217; holiday this year at all.</p>
<p>Almost five million adults who are taking a UK holiday this year (40%) put their decision down to financial concerns, with 16% admitting they cannot afford to go abroad, 13% blamed unfavourable exchange rates, and 11% simply said that a holiday in this country will be cheaper. These concerns have affected Londoners by far the most; with 59% of those holidaying in the UK saying that financial factors led to their decision.</p>
<p>On average, those staying in the UK estimate they will spend £477 per week on their holiday. This compares to those going abroad who think they will spend £728; meaning that the UK holidaymakers will be saving on average £247 each, leading to a UK wide saving of just under £3 billion on holidays in 2009*.</p>
<p>Emma Holyer, spokesperson for <a href="http://www.lv.com/insurance/travel_insurance/policy_information">LV= travel insurance</a>, commented: &#8220;It&#8217;s not surprising that many more people are looking to take their main holiday in the UK this year. The sliding value of the pound, particularly compared with the Euro and US dollars, plus the overall economic climate, have made holidaymakers think twice about spending their hard-earned wages on a trip abroad.&#8221;</p>
<p>Further LV= research** has indicated that more than five million Brits are planning to cut back on one or more insurance policies this year, with 22% of these looking at cutting a <a href="http://www.lv.com/insurance/travel_insurance/policy_information">travel insurance policy</a>. These new figures show that 59% of those holidaying in the UK do not intend to take out any form of <a href="http://www.lv.com/insurance">insurance cover</a> for their break.</p>
<p>Emma Holyer continued: &#8220;It is important that these people remember that even though they are staying in this country, <a href="http://www.lv.com/insurance/travel_insurance">travel insurance</a> is still important. It will help to ensure that they don&#8217;t end up out of pocket if they have a problem with their transport arrangements, such as missing their train, plane or bus, or if their belongings go missing. In addition, if customers have to cut short their holiday or cancel for any reason, insurance will mean they can claim back some of the costs.&#8221;</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>LighterLife has revealed that British women are the most overweight in Europe and British men tip the scales as the third fattest, according to the average European body mass index (BMI).</p>
<p>In the lead up to <a href="http://bmi4life.lighterlife.com/">BMI 4 Life</a>, a campaign highlighting the life-and-death importance of BMI, an alarming survey published in the newsletter of the French National Institute of Demographic studies has shown that British women on average have a BMI of 26.2, which is considered overweight.</p>
<p>French women have a <a href="http://www.lighterlife.com/bmi_calculator">BMI</a> of 23.2, the lowest in the EU, but tend to worry more about being fat than those in any other EU country. Typically, British woman are overweight but convinced they are slim, highlighting the fact that many people don&#8217;t know what BMI means and have no idea how it is measured.</p>
<p>Unsurprisingly, the survey suggests that men across the EU are less concerned about their weight than women, although out of the 15 member countries only French and Dutch men fall within the ideal weight range, with the rest being overweight.</p>
<p>The BMI 4 Life campaign, which is being championed by weight-management experts LighterLife, aims to highlight the very real dangers associated with excessive weight gain and the importance of reaching and maintaining a healthy BMI.</p>
<p>LighterLife is once again teaming up with The Stroke Association and is encouraging members of the public to get involved and show they care by visiting and posting a message on the LighterLife website, taking a quiz and passing it onto their friends to help LighterLife increase awareness and raise money for The Stroke Association.</p>

<p>Andrea Lane, Media Manager for The Stroke Association, said: &#8220;Many people don&#8217;t realise that a stroke is a brain attack that happens when the blood supply to the brain is cut off and brain cells die. As the brain controls everything we do, think and feel the damage can be devastating. Being obese can increase your risk of stroke by over 30 per cent so it is vital we all maintain a healthy body weight and a good diet.&#8221;</p>
